Pocket-Size Daring and Dangerous Books

pocket_books.jpgJust in time for summer holidays, the Daring Book for Girls and the Dangerous Book for Boys are available in pocket size, so that your favorite daring, dangerous kids can easily schlep them along on their adventures.

There's been something of a kerfuffle over these books and gender stereotypes, but we think the grown-ups may be missing the point: to step away from the TV and video games and do cool stuff.

With plenty of fun activities and interesting bits of lore in both books -- from making your own zip line and building a campfire to skipping stones and writing in invisible ink -- frankly, we'd get a copy of each, regardless of whether our kids were boys or girls.

Daring Book for Girls and Dangerous Book for Boys are $10.17 each at Amazon

Yeah, I think people were getting blocked by the gender thing, but if you look at the Amazon reviews for the original versions, these do seem like great books, and by the way, I grew up before video games were popular or mainstream or even sold en masse, and from ages 3-9 the neighborhood kids and I played outdoors for HOURS every day. Recess at school was real, and we actually had PE classes with skill training in sports, fitness, tumbling, etc. Was this the '70s? Yes.

I love those titles. I would've wanted one of those books if they'd been on the shelves when I was young. And yes, I would've taken a peek at the boys' book, too. I'm just waiting until I know kids old enough to buy these for.
